Ichingo River Lodge, on the Chobe rapids, is only 200 metres away from the small town of Kasane in Northern Botswana and yet it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The Chobe river brings life to a huge section of Africa - from Angola in the west, through the Okavango, before joining the Zambezi where it eventually flows in the Indian Ocean through Mozambique. Each day we head out in a small aluminium 'tinny' with our trusty driver Nicholas, to see what we can see. And there's a heap of fantastic animal and birdlife here. On our first game boat ride, we spotted more bird species than we had seen after a week in Kruger. These are all Dr Natalie's photos.
A White-fronted Bee Eater and two shots of a Pied Kingfisher.
Junior having a bit of a sand bath. I'm told that in Chobe National Park there estimated to be more than 200,000 elephants - spread out in a park that measures more than 11,000 square kilometres. That's a very large park.
Three metre Nile Crocodile basking on the river bank, a Reed Cormorant with a squeaker (a local fish) and an African Fish Eagle in flight
A pair of African Wattled Lapwings, Cape Turtle Dove and a rare African Finfoot (it has distinctive red legs - but it was not willing to share them with us. Maybe another time.
