Historic TulbaghRated 0 out of 5 stars. No ratings yetOnly an hour and a half drive from central Cape Town, historic Tulbagh makes for a great day out.Tulbagh is a small town surrounded on three sides by 2000m high mountains - we drove into the area via a short mountain pass road. The town is about 1.5 hour drive from Cape Town The main attraction I guess is Tulbagh's old houses - the town itself is the fourth oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Swellendam. Some scattered fresh snow on the 2000m mountains around TulabghTulbagh was originally the last 'civilised' area but once Michel's Pass and the rail line opened, the town became something of a rural backwater. That's part if its charm today.Church Street is lined with a fantastic collection of original homes. An earthquake in 1969 seriously damaged much of the historic centre but, thanks to a national fundraiser, the old buildings have been returned to their former glory.
