To see African wild dogs in the wild is a very rare experience. Over the last couple of decades Africa has lost many of these free-roaming animals - to poachers, land development and of course to the ever growing press of population.
These animals roam over a huge area so, even if one or two animals are sighted, it's likely to be a fleeting glimpse as they pass through the region on the hunt for food. There are only around 6,600 wild dogs left in Southern Africa. It's been listed as 'endangered' since 1990 .
